Your local building codes may also require the use of hurricane ties for each truss member where it rests on the top plate. Raise it up horizontally and hold it in place with a 2 4 resting on the floor in the center of the base piece and one at the top center of the truss. A simple gable shed roof is often built using 2 4 or 2 6 lumber for the rafters and 2 4 for the collar ties. Carry a gable end in and set it on the top plate upside down and backwards near the end wall.

Nail 2 boards onto your walls as top plates. Set a ladder at the outside of both corners of the end wall. The members are held together with a 5 8 inch plywood gusset.
